The Cyclescheme Seven: what's your commute really like?
Cyclescheme, 21.07.2014

It's not often we get to hear, first-hand, how cycling to work can make a difference to your lifestyle. We all know that it's good for you and that it's environmentally responsible, but it’s always encouraging to hear a personal account from someone who has made the change from four wheels to two.
Each month we'll be featuring one Cyclescheme participant and hearing their story. We’ll ask the same seven questions (hence the name, The Cyclescheme Seven) in a bid to build up a picture of cycle commuters across Ireland. We're scouring the country for the real cycle commuters who take to their bike each morning. We want to share the inspiring and, sometimes funny, stories that people have. If you'd like to feature on our website, just drop us a line on: info@cyclescheme.ie with "Share my story' in the subject line.
This month we caught up with Ide from Dublin to see how her commute has changed her life.
CS: Where in the Ireland are you?
Ide: Dublin
CS: Since joining the scheme back in 2011 are you still cycling to work?
Ide: Yes I am still on the bike, I stated cycling to work when my son was nine and a half months and he is now three and a half!
CS: How often do you commute to work by bike?
Ide: I brave the traffic almost every day, the first few weeks were very scary I must admit I thought I would certainly die but now it's a breeze. I see myself as something of a modern day red riding hood complete with red cycling helmet and basket.
CS: Does the weather affect your decision to Cycle to Work?
Ide: Even the foul weather doesn't deter, I just cycle in with my jammies on (well tracksuit legs) and carry my clothes in two plastic bags simple but ingenious! Anyone can do this cycling lark. The next women's movement is pedal powered. Go on Bad Muthas!
CS: Where do you commute from and to?
Ide: I travel between Crumlin and the city centre.
CS: How has cycling affected your daily life - do you feel healthier? Have you saved money?
Ide: Cycling has been an absolute revelation to me. It was born from necessity, collecting the child from creche before six in Crumlin after leaving work in town at quarter past five. It's cheap transport and exercise and it saves you time and money and gives you a sleek silhouette and glowing complexion.
